Trust God
This morning I woke up with the tug of negativity on me. The phrases, “You can’t…”, “You’ll fail…” or “You should quit…” were ringing through my mind. I just smiled. At this point in my life I know what to do, trust God.
Scriptures
Philippians 4:13 says, “ I can do all things through Christ[a] who strengthens me.” We all have read and/or heard this scripture many times. But if you move your eyes up a few lines there’s another powerful scripture for you. Philippians 4:6-7 says, “6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Note that this scripture starts by telling us not to be anxious, meaning don’t rush. We make mistakes in our plans simply by rushing into them. We have to stop and not be anxious. It’s in that time we’ll find the right path to go down.
The next part, “prayer and supplication” is what you should do when deciding what path you want to take. If you want to start a new business, pray. If you want to get a new job, pray. Pray and trust that God will deliver. Sometimes if we just take a moment we’ll find a better way.
“Thanksgiving”, is very important. Instead of focusing on the negativity, thank God for all things going on in your life. Romans 8:28 is one of my favorite scriptures. It says, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” This scripture doesn’t say only the good things, it says ‘all’ things. The bad as well as the good work together for your good.
Lastly, Philippians 4:6-7 tells us to make our request known to God. Simply put, ‘ask’. As a father I teach my son to ask for what he wants. If you don’t ask you won’t receive. Oftentimes I already know what he wants, I’m just wanting him to ask. God does us the same way. He knows what we want but if we don’t ask him, we don’t receive.
Summary
Notice that none of these scriptures say you won’t be tested. Instead they give you power to overcome the test. The next time you find yourself doubting your walk remember that God has already said to trust Him and you will find peace. Once I brought these scriptures to my remembrance I found peace. I also found motivation. My day quickly went from pity to perseverance. I trust God.
