Summer Beauty Essentials

Summer is right around the corner and it’s time to switch up your beauty routine. While this time of year is great for swimming at the beach or picnicking by the lake, the extreme heat can mean trouble for our makeup, skin and hair.

Follow my Summer Beauty Essentials Guideline to save yourself from a summer meltdown.

Makeup

  1. For a foundation that will not melt away in the heat, use a tinted moisturizer or BB cream. These products are lightweight, will help keep your skin hydrated and provide sheer to medium coverage. Suggestions: NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 30, Smashbox Camera Ready with SPF 35, Maybelline Dream Fresh 8 in 1
  2. Powder – use a light powder to set your foundation to extend the life of your makeup. I recommend a translucent or no-color powder so there is no build-up of color. Suggestions: RCMA No Color Powder, Black Opal Oil Absorbing Blocking Powder
  3. Consider using a waterproof mascara and setting spray to lock in that summer look you have worked so hard on.
  4. Primers are a good first step to help extend your makeup wear. Choose a light, non-heavy primer and apply a thin layer prior to using foundation.
  5. Less is always more, especially during the hotter months. Remember this as you spend your day in the heat and high humidity.

Skin

    1. Hydrate – Drink plenty of water throughout the day to rehydrate and replenish your body. Besides, it is good for maintaining that healthy glow.
    2. Use Sunscreen w/SPF daily and in every season, however, it is definitely important during the months of increased sun exposure. *EVERYONE should use sunscreen.
    3. Exfoliate – now is a great time to exfoliate your skin to shed off dead and dull winter skin. If you are unsure of which products to use for your skin-type, seek help from a professional esthetician or dermatologist.

Hair

  1. Give your hair a break from hot tools, which could cause damage. Instead, opt for easy and simple hairstyles you can create with your hands, comb or brush.
  2. Limit the use of hairspray that contains alcohol. These products can dry your hair and cause breakage and damage.
  3. Drinking water not only helps your skin, it is vital for healthy hair.
  4. Wearing protective styles such as braids, wigs or hair weaves, will help you to keep your locks healthy and strong. Be sure not to wear protective styles more than three months.
