Once again I wake up to find out another African American man has been gunned down senselessly. This man, Joe McKnight was a 28 year old former NFL football player with the New York Jets and the Kansas City Chiefs. Why was he gunned down? It appears road rage is the only answer.
A unidentified witness says she saw a man yelling at another man. The man was apologizing at the man who was yelling. The arguing man pulled out a gun and shot him several times. He then said, “I told you not to f*** with me!”
“Joe McKnight was a loving father and a genuine, kind-hearted person,” the Jets said in a statement. “It is sad when life is taken in what appears to be such a senseless act of violence. Joe, you will be missed.”
The senseless murders of African American men have to stop. However, this case is about more than just African Americans, it is about people in general. Over a 7-year study period, there were over 200 murders associated directly to road rage (21 Startling Road Rage Facts and Statistics – BrandonGaile.com (2015). Retrieved December 2, 2016, from http://brandongaille.com/21-startling-road-rage-facts-and-statistics/).
Any number of road rage victims is to many. We need laws changed to make the penalty stronger for those who commit this type of crime. Murder is wrong and killing someone for driving is clearly wrong.
The Lyfe Magazine wishes to pass on our condolences to the family of Joe McKnight. All we know about Joe was that he was a good man and provided great entertainment on the field of play for many of us. RIP Joe McKnight.
