Resurrection Sunday: Assignment Complete

Resurrection Sunday – Assignment Complete

God sent His only Son to earth with an assignment: redeem mankind (John 3:16). Jesus was sent here in human form to live like us and experience life like us. And then He died on the cross to redeem us from our sins. On Resurrection Day, His assignment was completed!

Leading up to this Resurrection Sunday, the Holy Spirit put this in my spirit: We were all sent here with an assignment. It’s up to us to complete it. Jesus fulfilled His. He had a choice. He didn’t have to. Oh but thank God He did! Where would we be had He chosen differently? His assignment was not easy. In fact, it was brutally painful. Yet, He stayed the course and did as Our Father desired.

Many are aware of their God-given assignment and are working to fulfill it. Some encounter difficulty and quit, feeling as if it may not matter. Generally speaking, our kingdom assignments are not convenient, nor easy. (Operating in our gifting may be easy, but our gifting and our assignment are not necessarily the same thing.) When problems and difficulty arise, do we stay the course as Jesus did or do we bale on our assignment?

Who is in need of YOU fulfilling YOUR assignment? You may never know all the people you positively impact by living out your calling, but you certainly won’t know if you don’t do it.

Some may feel they have no idea what their purpose is in life. Or worse yet, they believe they don’t have one. We all have purpose. It may seem some people have greater purpose because theirs is publicized. Understand this; purpose is purpose, no matter the degree, level, or platform.

On the cross, Jesus uttered the words “it is finished” (John 19:30). The day he uttered those words is the day we recognize as Good Friday. As you know, it was three days later that Jesus rose from the dead and ascended to Heaven. That is when I believe His assignment was completed. It was in the act of rising from the dead that His time here on earth was validated. At that point, there was no denying He was indeed who He said He was. Without doubt, it confirmed He had been sent here by God with purpose. That’s when His true legacy began.

How does that relate to us today? It may not be until after we have passed from this life into eternity that our purpose here on earth is realized. Please don’t let that hold you back. Fulfilling our purpose is not for our earthly gain, but God’s glory. For us it is about an eternal perspective. It is much easier to keep our focus on eternity when we are diligently seeking understanding of our purpose and working towards fulfilling it.

On Resurrection Sunday 2021, I applaud you if you are diligently attempting to live out your purpose/assignment(s). For those who need encouragement to get started or pick yours back up, consider this to be it…
