Luke Cage: A Step in the Right Direction

As usual I flipped through my Netflix account looking for something well, “marvelous” to watch. I stumbled upon “Luke Cage”. That was the best stumble I’ve had in a long while.

Being a fan of Marvel shows and movies, I started to watch Season 1 of Luke Cage and found myself watching every episode to the end and wanting more. Mike Colter did an outstanding job as Luke Cage. USA Today says, “Mike Colter’s good guy could probably hold his own against the Hulk, and he also has the emotional depth of Daredevil or Jessica Jones.” I couldn’t agree more.

Finding the right person to play the role of a hero is imperative; Netflix got it right! Mike Colter was born to Mr. & Mrs. Eddie Lee Colter Sr. At just 8 years of age he knew that acting would be his life long ambition when he saw the film “A Soldiers Story” in 1984. My favorite actor in the show was Simone Missick. Her performance as the lead female in the series gave the show a special something to take it to the next level. It was refreshing to see African American actors, especially Simone, play a serious, meaning role and knock it out of the park.

As good as Mike and Simone’s roles were on the good guy side, Erik LaRay Harvey’s portrayal of “Diamondback” was off the chain!  He was the bad guy you loved to hate and gave Luke Cage all he wanted and more.  His character was well written and played by Harvey.

In the end Luke Cage made African Americans proud and I for one pray that we can have more good entertainment like this in the future.
