Dating and relationships are changing in this day and age because your love life is so much more than just having someone to sleep with – so many factors must be considered – now are you aware of the five relationship trends to look for in 2018?
#1. Being single is cool.
A recent survey shows that more and more people prefer to be single now. Research suggests that because in some ways the modern society has rendered marriages obsolete, a growing number of singles don’t feel the need to get married. More specifically, in the past, women would want to be married in order to live a good life because at that time most women were housewives who needed their husband’s’ financial support. In today’s day and age, the majority of women have jobs and many women make more money than men. Therefore, it is not necessary for a large number of women to get married anymore. In other words, the benefits of being married can be enjoyed while being single (it’s okay to have sex and kids without being married). As a result, no wonder so many singles are happily single.
#2. People become choosier.
The high divorce rate in western countries means most people don’t settle anymore. Life is short. Why settle?
#3. “Weekend couples” are common.
“Weekend couples” refer to couples who only see each other on weekends. For instance, each spouse has an apartment and they catch up every weekend. That’s partly because independence and freedom are highly valued now, and partly because it’s common for a couple to work in two different cities. Distance makes the heart grow fonder, right?
#4. Online dating is the main way to meet someone new.
Ten years ago, people were embarrassed if others knew they were on an online dating website. However, today online dating seems to be the main way to meet someone new (if not the only way). Indeed, new technology has made finding love so much easier to handle.
#5. Marriage counseling is the norm.
Modern couples have realized that every marriage has difficult times and requires support. Nowadays, people get married for experience rather than survival, the quality of marriage is much more important in 2018. Consequently, seeing a marriage counselor is a great way to solve problems.
